Jonathan Roberts Burns, 36, of Woodbridge, allegedly communicated with the victims, both under 18 years old, last July, Prince William County police said.
An investigation was launched on July 27, when police learned the two girls were texting with Burns, their former teacher, police said.
"During a conversation with one of the victims, a video chat occurred where the accused exposed himself." police said. No physical contact was reported by either victim."
Burns had, at one point, taught both victims while working as a teacher with Prince William County Public Schools. He was not actively teaching either victim and had not been working with Prince William County Public Schools at the time of offenses, police said.
The inappropriate communication also took place after the victims had advanced to other schools, authorities said. The victims were only known to Burns due to his former role as their teacher, according to police.
Following the investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Burns, who was charged with six counts of using a communication system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.
